Description

The Apoyo Lagoon is one of the oldest in Nicaragua. It was formed hundreds of thousands of years ago, after the eruption of a volcano whose open cone gradually filled with water. Today, the lagoon is surrounded by green hills covered with trees. The water is sky blue and its temperature is always ideal for swimming.

The Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve is located between the departments of Masaya and Granada, in Nicaragua. It was declared a natural reserve in 1991 by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA). It is a body of water of volcanic origin.
