When Bambu Beach opened, it was the only place to eat on the beach that could be described as having a modern vibe - even classy.

Since then, the choice of beachfront restaurants has expanded considerably, but Bambu Beach, with its polished bamboo dividers, cool pool, and attractive tall tables still retains a forward-thinking feel.

But perhaps most importantly, the food never disappoints. Its fusion menu pulls on influences from the Mediterranean, Asia and Mexico and the pointed list of daily specials offers more of a sense of place with prominent local seafood dishes. There is something for every palate lunch and dinner - and beautifully presented to boot. On any given day you can find Orange Chili Mackerel, Lobster in Garlic Sauce, Fettuccine with Shrimp, a Seafood Grill joint or even New York Steak on the specialty list.

Come in the evening and you may be able to sit on the beach in the cool evening air. During the day, paddle in the pool while you wait for your food. The bar is spacious and softly lit with a line of bamboo pendant lights. It's a perfect place to enjoy a cocktail or two while waiting for your friends to arrive, or for the sun to set.

Great food in a relaxed and elegant setting, a warm welcome from friendly staff, and perhaps even one of those beautiful San Juan del Sur sunsets that turn the sky a bright orange. Really, what more could you ask for?

When Bambu Beach does something new, they do it so well, so it's great to see them mix things up by introducing live music, guest DJs, movie nights (screen hangs between two palm trees) "Eco Chic" fashion shows. fashions (offered by the San Juan del Sur models) as well as meticulously run wedding parties.
